Evidences Of A Sovereign Move Of God
We are witnessing a marvelous move of God throughout America that is reminiscent of that which occurred in the early church.
Acts 2:41-47 reveals seven results which will be evident in an individual's life or in a corporate church body when there is a sovereign move of God.
1. Fear of God "And fear came upon every soul..." (Acts 2:43) The fear of God came upon the early Church and was manifested through holiness. People no longer played around with sin or attacked God's anointed servants.
2. Signs and Wonders "...and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles." (Acts 2:43) A sovereign move of God is characterized by the incredible, supernatural intervention of Almighty God in the manifestation of miracles, signs, and wonders. The day will come - and I believe we are about to see it where those who walk into the house of God will be instantaneously delivered from demons, and God's children will walk in perfect health.
3. Unity and Oneness of Spirit "And all that believed were together and had all things common...and they, continuing daily with one accord..." (Acts 2:44,46) The fourth evidence of a move of God is unity and oneness of spirit. The early Church had all things in common and they continued daily in one accord. There was tremendous unity and oneness of spirit.
4. Total Prosperity "And they sold their possessions and goods and parted (gave) them to all men as every man had need." (Acts 2:45) In the book of Acts, members of the early Church brought their abundance and gave it to the Church so that the poor could be cared for. Every need was met - not because of some government agency, but because the Church had more money than the government!
5. An Increase in Prayer "And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple..." (Acts 2:46) Members of the first Church "continued daily" in the temple. Their prayer life increased.
6. Gladness and Singleness of Heart "...breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart." (Acts 2:46) When the move of God swept the early Church, supernatural joy resulted from the total contentment that comes from singleness of heart.
7. A Mighty Breakthrough in Evangelism "And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." (Acts 2:47) There was a tremendous spiritual harvest as the Lord added daily to the Church. We are witnessing a similar move of God today. Multiplied thousands are being swept into the Kingdom of God in our Miracle Healing Crusades.
It is NOT just a move of God that we hunger for, but God Himself. It is NOT just the signs and wonders that we seek, but the Miracle Worker Himself. It is NOT Christianity that we seek, but Christ Himself. It is NOT divine healing we seek, but the Divine Healer.
In Hebrews 1:1-3, the Bible reveals six things about the One whom we seek:
1. Jesus is the heir of all things. God has appointed His Son "heir of all things." (Hebrews 1:2) All that God is and all that He has belongs to Jesus, and - as joint-heirs with Christ - to us!
2. Jesus is the Creator of ALL things. God "hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son...by whom also he made the worlds." (Hebrews 1:2) Colossians 1:16 says, "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible..."
3. Jesus is the radiance of God. He is "...the brightness of His glory." (Hebrews 1:3) Jesus is the radiance of the Father's presence. In 2 Corinthians 4:6 we read that "...God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."
4. Jesus is the express image of His (God) person. Jesus Christ is the exact representation of God the Father, "the express image of His person." (Hebrews 1:3) When the disciples said, "Show us the Father," Jesus said that whoever had seen Him had already seen the Father (John 14:9-11). Colossians 2:9 says, "In Him dwells the Godhead bodily" and that He has "...immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see..." Colossians 1:15 declares that Christ is "...the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature."
5. Jesus upholds all things by the Word. Everything in life is held together by Him. He is in the beginning, the middle, and the end. He is described as "upholding all things by the word of his power." (Hebrews 1:3)
6. Jesus finished the work of God. "When he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high." (Hebrews 1:3)
In Job 29:7-23, Job prophetically describes this finished work of Christ.
Young men were in awe and hid themselves and the aged stood up (v.8): This means that the fear of God descended upon the church.
The voices of princes, nobles, and the wicked were silenced (v.9-10,17). The princes and nobles - meaning principalities and powers - the wicked, and all the forces of hell were crippled.
The ear heard, the eye saw, and bore witness (v.11): The finished work of Christ resulted in a powerful witness to the Gospel. The weak were protected and provided for (v.12-13,16).
There was a new move toward holiness and the wicked were judged (v.14).
There was a great manifestation of the power of God in signs and wonders (v.15).
The dew of the Holy Spirit descended on the Day of Pentecost (v.19).
Now we are waiting for the promised latter rain!
We don't just seek the move of God, we seek God Himself.
